Short definitions of the terms used on the site.
Short definitions for reading the catalog and its documentation. Technical names are included where they differ from the interface. For how these ideas fit together, read Core concepts.
A record that has passed its workflow's approval step. Acceptance does not guarantee that every fact is correct or individually cited.
An external identifier linking an entry to the same subject in another catalog, such as Wikidata or Getty. Also called an identity anchor or authority identifier.
A field stored on an entry, such as height or birth year. The entry's kind determines which fields apply. Also called a property or field.
A directional connection recording that one thing increases or reduces another effect. It includes a positive or negative sign. The sign describes the claim rather than proving it.
A link from a source to an entry, fact, or connection. It can identify support, disagreement, evidence, or the origin of data.
A personally arranged list of entries. Collections are not available in the public demo.
The shared catalog records, including entries, classifications, connections, sources, citations, and media references. Also called the shared catalog.
Different sourced claims about a subject. Relationship ranks and dispute citations can help record disagreement; the presence of those mechanisms does not mean every conflicting value has a dedicated comparison display.
A classification term, such as a style, movement, subject, or material. Concepts can have broader and narrower terms. Some have linked entries so connections can refer to the idea itself.
A recorded relationship between two entries, with a label and optional details such as an explanation, dates, and citations. Also called a relationship or edge.
One of six broad families: influence or lineage, similarity, co-occurrence, part-of, contrast or opposition, and cause. More specific labels sit within these families.
A maintained set of terms with identifiers, such as the Getty Art & Architecture Thesaurus. Concepts can be mapped to terms in these vocabularies.
A recorded year or range, with display text and precision information where available. Timeline positions use years rather than month-and-day dates. BCE years are supported.
The technical name for the number of recorded connections an entry has. The interface calls this the connection count; on Scatter it is the Connections field. In an entry's connection map, Connection steps (1, 2, or 3) sets how many steps out from the center to explore.
A record with its own page, describing a person, place, work, idea, or other subject. Also called an entity or record; drawn as a node in the Network.
An identifier assigned by another system to the same subject. A given external identifier can belong to only one entry in Mnemo Atlas.
The author and license information displayed with an image, linking to its source details. Also called attribution.
An entry with no recorded connections to other entries.
The interface's term for an entry type. See Type.
The separate personal-data model for favorites, notes, tags, and collections. These features are unavailable in the public demo. Also called the personal layer.
A stored entry or connection awaiting acceptance. It may come from different drafting or batch processes; the label does not mean it was necessarily generated by AI.
A reference such as a book, article, webpage, or dataset. Citations specify which claims it relates to.
On the Stories page, a guided narrative built from catalog records and citations. Separately, Fictional Story and Nonfictional Story are entry kinds used to represent narratives or sequences of events within the catalog.
A draft change waiting in a review queue. Accepting it applies the catalog change through validation. The suggestions interface is unavailable in the public demo.
A relationship that applies in both directions, such as similarity or opposition. It is stored once and can be shown from either entry.
A registered record shape, such as Person, Building, or Product, determining which attributes apply. An entry can have several types. The interface calls them kinds.
One of the model's broad categories: enduring things, happenings, ideas, and qualities. These help organize the schema and are distinct from the Catalog's browsing groups.
A connected group of entries. For connectivity measurement, the group includes entries reachable through links without requiring all links to point in the same direction. Also called a connected component.
A structured, collaboratively maintained knowledge base. Mnemo Atlas imports records from it and uses its item identifiers, or QIDs, to match entries across imports.
